This website is a showcase for the villa. There is no form to fill in, no account to create and no analytics or advertising tracking. We do not ask you for any personal information here, and we do not build a profile of you.

Who we are

Villa Musta Koira is owned and operated by Musta Koira Oy, a company registered in Finland. Because we are established in Finland and host guests at a property in South Africa, both the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the South African Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 apply to us. Where they differ, we apply the stricter standard.

What happens when you visit this site

• Server logs. Our hosting provider, Domainhotelli, records the usual technical details of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and device type. This is how the site is delivered and kept secure. We do not use these logs to identify visitors, and the web host deletes them after 30 to 90 days.
• Cookies. We set none. There is nothing to consent to and no banner to dismiss.
• Files loaded from third parties. The wine route map and the page styling load map tiles, scripts and fonts from OpenStreetMap, unpkg and Google Fonts. Your browser requests those files directly, which tells those providers your IP address and the page you are on. We have no control over what they do with it, and their own privacy policies apply.
• The Airbnb link. Following it takes you to Airbnb, where Airbnb's own terms, cookies and privacy policy apply. We receive nothing about you unless and until you make a booking.

We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website for the logging described above. Nothing here involves advertising, profiling or automated decision-making.

If you email us or book a stay

Email us and we hold your message and address for as long as needed to answer, and up to 12 months after our last contact.

If you book, Airbnb Ireland UC handles the reservation, identity verification and payment as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. We never see your card or bank details. Airbnb then passes us what we need to host you: your name, a masked contact address, your dates, the number of guests and your messages. At the villa we may also record the details South African law requires us to keep in a guest register, and anything you tell us to prepare for your arrival. We use this only to host your stay, to meet tax and legal obligations, and to resolve any damage claim or dispute. We keep guest records for three years after the stay, and accounting records for as long as Finnish and South African tax law requires.

We share this information only with our managing agent, housekeeping, maintenance and security providers in South Africa, our accountants, insurers and attorneys, and public authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell personal information or share it for anyone's marketing.

Running the villa moves information between South Africa and Finland. Where information leaves the European Economic Area we rely on an adequacy decision or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses; where it leaves South Africa we rely on section 72 of POPIA. Ask us and we will describe the safeguards.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, or to object to a use we base on our legitimate interests. Write to info@mustakoira.com and we will answer within one month. There is no charge. You can also use Form 2 or Form 3 prescribed by the Information Regulator under section 23 or 24 of POPIA. Anything Airbnb holds must be requested from Airbnb.

If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland or to the Information Regulator in South Africa. We would rather have the chance to put it right first.

If we add a contact form, a newsletter or any analytics to this site, we will update this notice before doing so. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
